New Town Councillors

Monday 12th January 2009

Fazeley Town Council has 2 new councillors following the Following the resignation of two sitting councillors. The Town Council chose to co-opt the new councillors rather than call bi-elections to fill the vacant seats on the council. 3 applications were received to fill the positions and, following a secret ballot of sitting councillors, former Mayor of Fazeley Ms Jo Atkins and 18-year-old Rebecca James were voted on to the Town Council.

Jo and Rebecca will be the first ladies to sit on the Town Council since before the last election held in May 2007.

Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Pritchard, said, “It is always good to have a former Mayor of Fazeley on the Town Council and also having such a young person involved is fantastic and I look forward to working with both of our new councillors.”

Aged 18 years 2 months Rebecca is the youngest ever councillor on Fazeley Town Council.  Rebecca is also currently Staffordshire’s youngest councillor and one of the youngest, if not the youngest, in the whole of the U.K.

Rebecca’s appointment to Fazeley Town Council is a family affair, as her father is Town Deputy Mayor Cllr Andrew James.

Fazeley’s newest councillors will officially join the Town Council at the next meeting, due to be held on Monday 9th February at the Town Hall.
